Professor Cliff Hughes is the Immediate Past President of the International Society for Quality in Health Care; Patient Safety and Clinical Quality at Macquarie University.

Formerly a cardiothoracic surgeon he was the Chief Executive of the Clinical Excellence Commission, in NSW, Australia.

He has served on numerous Australia state and federal committees associated with quality, safety and research in clinical practice for health care services. A Fellow, Senior Examiner in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Councilor of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, he was awarded its highest honor, the Sir Hugh Devine Medal, in October 2015.
