Dr Ong is currently Senior Consultant in the Emergency Medicine Department, National University Hospital (NUH) and Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLLSoM); National University Singapore. He is the Program Director of the NUHS National Post Graduate Year 1 Program/ Transitional Year Residency and a core faculty member of the NUHS Emergency Medicine Residency program.

Beyond his clinical role within the Department, Dr Ong is also the departmental Patient Safety Officer for the past 8 years. He has introduced several safety initiatives within the department with his team of like-minded colleagues. 

He has successfully contributed to ensuring that the department and NUH meet up with the accreditation standards of the Joint Commission International (JCI) over the last 2 re-accreditation exercises.

Besides looking at improvement strategies and execution within the Emergency Department, Dr Ong has had the privilege to share his insights and experiences with his fellow clinical, nursing and allied health colleagues at various safety forums which NUH conducts on a regular basis.Inter-professional education is something that NUHS believes in strongly and he has been given the opportunity to shape the hearts and minds of the young medical, nursing and pharmacy students from the National University of Singapore through frequent simulation sessions.

He is also a clinical tutor with the Centre of Biomedical Ethics (CBmE) and contributes towards the Health Ethics, Law and Professionalism longitudinal track for medical students of the NUS YLLSoM.
